Independent Electrical Contractors Mobilized the 9NEWS Parade of Lights in Downtown Denver
In 2023, the Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM) stepped up again to make the 9NEWS Parade of Lights in Downtown Denver a sparkling success. This organization, dedicated to workforce development for the electrical and renewable energy industry, showcased its commitment by contributing time, trucks, and talent to this cherished holiday event. Each of the 12 floats in the parade was pulled by an electrical contractor member of the association who volunteered their time to be a part of the magical event. See below for a list of contractors that pulled the floats. Click here to view the photos from the 9NEWS Parade of Lighst and the IECRM Parade of Lights Holiday Party!
By participating in the 9NEWS Parade of Lights, a long-standing holiday tradition for Downtown Denver with hundreds of thousands of spectators, IECRM aims to highlight the creative work of skilled trade workers, promote the many diverse career paths in the electrical and renewable energy industry, and showcase the dedication of its members. Since 2017, IECRM has been an integral part of the parade, initially constructing a new float for the parade after a contest among their students. The Ice Castle float, owned by the Downtown Denver Partnership, has become a staple in the parade, with IECRM consistently sponsoring and representing it yearly. The 9NEWS Parade of Lights will air again on the following dates: 12/9 7-8PM on KTVD, 12/24 3-4PM on KUSA, and 12/25 4:30-5:30AM on KUSA, and the Livestream recording can be viewed anytime visit https://www.youtube.com/live/QSf9RFh4PS0?si=4ycBb_b6LtuO-6mj.
In addition, IECRM hosted an exclusive Parade of Lights Holiday Party for its students and members, along with their families and friends, at a venue located directly on the parade route, inviting them to enjoy appetizers, a holiday dinner feast, festive kids’ activities, hot cocoa, and fresh baked cookies, in a warm modern atmosphere with easy access to the parade. The party featured a special visit from the Ice Castle’s “Apprince” and “Apprincess,” and Santa Claus before they made their appearance in the parade.
Walking alongside IECRM’s float are volunteers and apprentices currently enrolled in the 4-Year Electrical Apprenticeship Program and are on their way to becoming Colorado’s next generation of electricians. The 40 walkers wore light-up electrical safety gear and engaged with the parade audience, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.
Beyond the parade’s festivities, IECRM highlighted the electrical trade as a viable career option, emphasizing its earn-while-you-learn model. This approach allows students to work as electrical apprentices full-time during the day and attend class one night a week to meet Colorado’s licensing requirements for both on-the-job and classroom training hours. Electricians are among the highest-paid and most respected out of the skilled trades, and the industry will have a continuous demand for skilled workers for many years.
In addition to training aspiring electricians, IECRM provides top-notch continuing education to licensed electricians in Colorado and other states. For those interested in pursuing a career in the electrical industry or seeking professional development, IECRM is the pathway.
