Attracting talent to the “essential” electrical industry proved to be very doable in a virtual setting. On June 11th, 49 apprentice candidates met with 7 IECRM member contractors in a round-robin of virtual meeting rooms. Each meeting room featured a member contractor and anywhere from 4-6 candidates engaged in a discussion about each contractor’s business, careers in the electrical industry, and a question and answer session. Candidates were then invited to submit resumes and fill out job applications online.
Just as member contractors are provided free booth space at in-person Career Fairs, the meeting room “booths” were also a free member benefit.
“[The] Virtual Career Fair was great and better than I imagined,” said Leighland Gutierrez. “I think it was successful on many fronts, but most importantly a great use of everyone’s time. The coordination from everyone went very well and I hope it was well-received by the attendees/job seekers.”
IECRM will continue to refine the virtual Career Fair format and is conducting a survey of candidate attendees.
