The Power of Change! An American Road Trip

A Letter from the CEO

I recently experienced a wonderful 2,000 mile road trip halfway across the country from Florida to Colorado loaded down with a rented SUV packed full of family memories. I love to drive and what I expected was some windshield time to listen and sing along to my curated MAS Travel Songs playlist, some solace, personal rejuvenation, and introspection for the extrovert! What I didn’t expect was the renewed professional energy I would gather from sites along the way as I observed and reflected on the immense impact the electrical industry has on our surroundings.

The miles and miles of massive and impressive solar arrays along I-10 in the Sunshine State generating energy to power tens of thousands of homes in northeast Florida evolved into the even more massive and impressive fields of giant wind turbines waving their sweeping arms at truckers and motorists along I-70 in the Sunflower State.

I had planned the trip specifically to include a stop at the I-70 Diner in Flagler, Colorado for a hearty breakfast and some nostalgia in an old Starlite diner that the owners had moved to this tiny town of 600 residents on the eastern plains some years ago. What wasn’t planned was the chance to learn from the “test track drivers” about a new electric vehicle not yet on the market; and yet another example of the changes powering the future of our industry and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Each of these moments drew me to think of the breadth and depth of federal and state policies we are tracking as we address electrification, energy codes and benchmarking, EV charging, and other legislative and regulatory issues impacting the industry. Please see the Legislative Priorites article and use your powerful voice to both enact and prevent change during this legislative session. We need your voice to weigh in on industry impacts regarding both energy policy and the future of apprenticeship training in both the urban and suburban areas along the front range and the most rural of communities across Colorado.

As the March winds begin to swirl across Colorado, let us embrace the Power of Change and our ability to harness that power for good in our industry.
