IECRM encourages contractor members to consider an often-overlooked talent pipeline: New Americans. Hiring New Americans is a strategic way to strengthen teams, expand opportunity, and build long-term workforce stability while supporting underserved communities.
“Hiring New Americans has been a big win,” says Sol Johnson-Mey with Aspire Electric. “They bring gratitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn. That energy makes a real difference on our team.”
Johnson-Mey also highlights the value of trusted partnerships. “Programs like Emily Griffith, workforce centers, and community partners helped with recruiting, screening, and preparing candidates before they joined our team. Don’t overlook this talent pool—the effort upfront pays off in work ethic and retention. I encourage other contractors to explore this talent. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Who Are New Americans?
Under Colorado law, a New American is a Coloradan who has arrived—or will arrive—as an immigrant or refugee, including their children. New Americans are an important and growing source of talent for the industry.
