APPRENTICE Spotlight – IECRM 2020 Salutatorian – Christian Brock, Kenny Electric
Be Better Than You Were the Day Before
About…
The 2020 IECRM graduating class Salutatorian is Christian Brock from Kenny Electric. His journey to ultimately graduating began with a 2014 IECRM Career Fair. He’d just moved to Colorado and had tried working at a tanning salon and then as a mechanic for a year. “I went online and saw that IECRM was holding a job fair,” says Christian. “So, I decided what did I have to lose? I’d go.”
At that career fair, Christian met the senior leaders at Kenny Electric, interviewed right then and there, and was offered a job at more than what he was making as a mechanic. “Kenny Electric is a place for individuals who want a sustainable career working with knowledgeable and skilled colleagues,” says Christian. “It’s a place where values are evident, life-long learning is paramount, and commitment to its employees is top-notch.”
Christian is originally from South Carolina and lived for a short time in both North Carolina and New Jersey before coming to Colorado.
Most Successful Work Habits…
“Continual improvement and initiative are the two things I’ve tried to practice and make real habits,” he says. “I believe that if you aren’t improving yourself, you aren’t doing anything with your life. Plus anyone who knows me knows I cannot abide laziness.”
Hero; Greatest Role Model…
“When I was a kid, I always told my Dad, ‘I’m going to grow up and be something someday,’” says Christian. “He always pushed me in that direction; he mentored me in self-improvement by his own example as a man who did everything he could for his family. I try to live by that.”
How Has IECRM Benefitted You?
“Learning and understanding the theory behind the principles of electricity and the electrical code makes all the difference in the world when it comes to actually applying those principles in the field,” he notes. “But the biggest impact on me came from the instructors I had. I’m grateful to them for always being there and truly wanting to help their students.”
Words of Inspiration for Fellow Graduates…
“The words I live by are ‘always strive to be better than you were the day before.’”
