As part of Women in Construction Week #WICWeek (March 1–7, 2026), IECRM is celebrating women shaping the electrical and construction trades. Today, we’re proud to highlight Selena Lujan, an electrician with Facility Solution Group!
What inspired you to pursue a career in the electrical trades, and what has kept you motivated along the way?
“What inspired me to be an electrician is the ability to work hands-on and gain on-the-job training while avoiding debt,” Selena said. “Being part of the apprenticeship program helped motivate me along the way, I didn’t have to worry about paying for schooling while working full time.”
What’s a challenge you’ve faced in the industry, and how did you work through it?
“A major challenge I face is the bias and stereotypes about women being in the trades,” she shared. “To overcome this, I seize opportunities to lead and invest in leadership roles to help create a more inclusive work culture.”
Why do you think it’s important for women to be visible in the electrical and construction trades?
“Visibility is key,” Selena said. “It’s important for women to become role models for the next generation. When young women see other women working in electrical, welding, or as project managers, it shows them what’s possible and inspires them to become the next generation of trade professionals.”
What does building an inclusive and supportive workplace in the electrical industry look like to you?
“What an inclusive and supportive workplace in the electrical industry looks like to me is a positive work environment that increases employee engagement and enhances creativity and innovation to improve performance as a team.”
Through stories like Selena’s, IECRM continues to celebrate the women shaping the future of the electrical and construction trades.
