Energy Efficiency/ Green Construction – Energy Efficient Retrofit Project Award Winner
Weifield Group Electrical Contracting for the Colorado State University Moby Geo Exchange Project
Taking Moby Arena Complex from a 60-year-old existing steam heating and chiller system to a new geothermal exchange heating and cooling system was no small feat. This is the largest geothermal solution west of the Mississippi and the biggest in Colorado. More than 340 wells had to be bored into the campus grounds and connected via piping to 12 high-efficiency water-to-water pumps, which utilized natural temperatures of the earth to heat and cool the water and ultimately, the campus.
