Recap: IECRM Quarterly Membership Luncheon on August 14

On Wednesday, August 14, IECRM hosted its Quarterly Membership Luncheon at the Main Campus in Northglenn. This event brought together members, IEC National leadership, and IECRM leaders and provided a platform for both new and veteran members to network, discuss industry trends, and explore upcoming initiatives.

A key highlight was the presentation by Jason Todd, IEC National Vice President of Government Affairs, who provided insights into the current legislative landscape. He discussed the divided Congress and the potential impacts on workforce policy, including the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Workforce Pell. Jason also covered significant labor policies, regulatory rulemaking, and the importance of IEC’s advocacy efforts through the IEC Freedom Fund.

The IEC Freedom Fund plays a pivotal role in supporting issue education materials, coalitions, legal actions, and consultants. Jason emphasized its importance in the battle against various legislative and regulatory challenges, such as the OSHA’s Union Walkaround Rule and the FTC’s Blanket Ban on Non-Competes. He encouraged members to contribute to the Freedom Fund and IEC PAC to strengthen IEC’s ability to fight these battles.

Jason also touched on key Supreme Court cases, like Glacier Northwest, Inc. v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which have significant implications for the industry. He highlighted the need for resources to draft comment letters on critical issues like the Davis-Bacon Rule and to oppose pro-union administration policies, such as the National Apprenticeship System Enhancements.

Looking ahead to 2025, the goal is to raise $500K to bolster IEC’s advocacy efforts. These funds will be crucial in addressing federal and state legislative and regulatory threats, including potential litigation and systemic challenges to merit shop apprenticeship.

The luncheon, a benefit for IECRM members, was not just a networking event but an opportunity to deepen understanding of the critical issues facing the industry. The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and readiness to tackle the challenges ahead.

Thank you to all who attended, and special thanks to Jason Todd for his expertise and dedication to supporting the industry. For those interested in staying informed and involved, Jason encourages members to sign up for IEC Advocacy Alerts by texting ‘IECACT’ to 50457.
