Members of Colorado’s Premier Electrical Trade Association Mobilized the 2022 9NEWS Parade of Lights in Downtown Denver

On Saturday, December 2nd, members of the Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM), a trade association for the electrical and renewable energy industry donated their time and their trucks to mobilize the 2022 9NEWS Parade of Lights, one of Denver’s longest-standing holiday traditions. In addition to being a trade association, IECRM is the largest electrical apprenticeship training program in the country.

IECRM’s first involvement with the Downtown Denver 9NEWS Parade of lights began in 2017 when more than 100 electrical apprentices and members volunteered their time and skills to build the newest permanent float for the parade in over 20 years. The float design was generated from a contest held amongst IECRM’s students and was voted on and selected by the Downtown Denver Partnership. The float is owned by the Partnership and will be in the parade for many years to come. IECRM has represented the float in the parade as a sponsor since 2017. By supporting Denver’s 9NEWS Parade of Lights, IECRM can showcase the work of the men and women in the electrical and renewable energy industry in a creative and fun way and promote the many career paths available in the electrical industry to hundreds of thousands of people each year. For the second year in a row, the parade floats were pulled by IECRM electrical contractors. Click here to see photos of the electrical parade. The electrical industry is consistently hiring and training aspiring electricians. No experience is necessary. Electricians power the community and energize Colorado. More than 200 IECRM members, students, alumni, spouses, children, and friends joined with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the “Apprince” and “Apprincess” of IECRM’s Sparkling Ice Castle float to enjoy the LIVE broadcast of the 47th Annual 9NEWS Parade of Lights, watch the parade from the beautiful Hyatt Regency hotel, and cheer from the best seats in the house as the Sparkling Ice Castle float made its fifth appearance in this annual holiday parade!

After visiting the IECRM Holiday Party, the Ice “Apprince” Mahlon Hanifin, 1st Year – Kenny Electric, and Ice “Apprincess” Angelique Montoya, 2nd Year – Kenny Electric, were escorted to the float to be in the parade and wave to the excited crowds. Both Angelique and Mahlon are electrical apprentices enrolled in the IECRM 4-Year Electrical Apprenticeship Program. Accompanying the float and representing Colorado’s electricians were 20 IECRM members decked out in fun light-up electrical safety gear interacting with the audience and spreading holiday cheer.

Party guests enjoyed gourmet appetizers, and a delicious holiday dinner served buffet style with carving stations. While waiting for the parade to come by guests were entertained with live music, games, and holiday crafts. Industry professionals enjoyed networking and cocktails and fresh cookies and a hot cocoa station was set out for guests as they head outside to watch the parade.

The electrical trade is a viable and sustainable career option without the burden of debt of a traditional 4-year college degree. IECRM offers an earn-while-you-learn model that allows students to work full-time as electrical apprentices in the field while attending class one night a week. The program meets the State of Colorado’s requirements for on-the-job and classroom training hours needed to obtain a Journeyman electrical license. The starting annual salary of a Journeyman electrician is over $50,000, and the demand for skilled electrical workers is continual year after year. Click here for more information about how to get your career started as an electrician. In addition to training aspiring electricians, IECRM also offers high-quality continuing education training to all licensed electricians in Colorado and other reciprocal states.

About IECRM Since 1981, Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM) has been the leading electrical and renewable energy contractor association in Colorado. Representing more than 250 member companies and educating over 3,000 electrical apprentices and licensed electricians annually, IECRM is dedicated to educating, promoting, and advancing the energy industry.
