Inspector Perspective – May 2023

Question: With the recent approval of some floating-type wire connectors, are jurisdictions accepting
wire connectors that comply with 2020 NEC Section 230.46, even though they may not have the marking
requirements on the physical connector itself?

Consensus: This will ultimately be up to AHJ discretion, but compliance with 2020 NEC Section 230.46
can be confirmed by methods other than a physical marking on the connector. Please reference UL
Product iQ, and guide information ZMVV for further information.

Question: Do low-voltage lighting systems need to be listed?

Consensus: Low voltage lighting systems shall comply with the listing requirements of 2020 NEC Section
411.4, these have no exemptions for “safe voltages”.
