Facts About IECRM

IECRM is the largest electrical apprenticeship training program in Colorado and Wyoming

 

  • Recognized by the US DOL Office of Apprenticeship (OA/BAT).
  • Approved and regulated by The Colorado Department of Higher Education, Division of Private Occupational Schools Board.
  • Training is offered in Northglenn, Ft. Collins, and South Denver.
  • Classes meet once a week and start at 5:30pm.
  • 95% of our students are employed while pursuing their education.
  • Tuition assistance is available for unemployed students.
  • Veterans: Apprentice training is GI Bill -applicable, and IECRM gives Veterans priority in terms of Tuition Assistance, as long as all other T.A. requirements are satisfied.
  • Through IECRM’s partnership with Emily Griffith Technical College, students can earn up to 42 hours of transferable credit toward Colorado Community College coursework, and graduates can earn up to 41 college credit hours through the American Council of Education (ACE), and up to 53 college credit hours toward a bachelor degree at CSU Global. 
  • IECRM offers the Public Sector Wage Benefit (OA/BAT) Program, which provides a tiered scale of prevailing wage salary and benefits to qualified apprentices.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In order to take the license exam to become a Journeyman electrician, an individual must have a combination of 4 years of apprentice experience (8,000 on-the-job training hours) and at least 288 hours of classroom training. Please see this link for more detailed information from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).

Please complete the Self-Pay form. After submitting the form, you will be contacted by a member of the Training Department to complete your registration.

Open Enrollment for New students (“First Year Apprentices”) is held mid-June through mid-July of each year. New students will begin their first year of classroom training at IECRM in August of each year. The first year ends in either May or June of the following year. There are two semesters per school year. Students can attend class in Denver, Ft. Collins, South Denver or Live-online.

In addition to August start, IECRM has a LATE START program for First-Year Students ONLY. Enrollment for the Late Start program opens in mid-September of each year and will close the last Friday in September or when all seats are filled. Late Start students can attend class in Denver or Virtually.

Our main campus and administrative office is located in Northglenn, Colorado; and we also offer training online, as well as in Fort Collins and South Denver.

IECRM prides itself on the passion and talents of our instructors. Our instructors are dedicated to teaching over 1,800 apprentice students and shaping them into highly skilled, highly trained, and highly motivated electricians. As licensed electricians themselves, they bring a wide range of experiences to the classroom which help our students develop an interest and understanding for the real-life applications and impacts of their skilled trade.

The vast majority of our students are employed as apprentices with electrical contractors during the day, and come to class at IECRM once a week from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. This means that classes should not affect students’ ability to work a full-time job as an electrical apprentice.

 

We also offer the option of Live-Online Apprentice Training, which also runs from 5:30pm – 9:30pm, once a week. Because this class is taught live by instructors over the web, it is a unique program unmatched by any other electrical training program in the region!

Tuition is paid per semester (2 semesters per school year).

Yes, you can apply your GI Bill benefits to apprentice training!


How to use your GI Bill benefits:

  • If you are a Registered Apprentice: If you are currently working as an apprentice for an electrical contractor, and if you have been registered with the OA program (registered with DOL), you may use your GI Bill benefits to pay for schooling. Note: OJT is required for monthly payment of benefits.
  • If you are a Non-Registered Apprentice: If you are currently working as an apprentice for an electrical contractor, and you have not been registered in the OA/BAT program (registered with DOL), you may use your GI Bill benefits to pay for schooling. Note: OJT is required for monthly payment.
  • If you are Not Working as An Apprentice: If you enroll in the program, you are eligible to use your GI Bill benefits for your tuition and books. This applies to ALL education offered by IECRM, including the apprenticeship program and continuing education classes.

Additionally, if you are unemployed, you may apply for Tuition Assistance through IECRM. IECRM gives US Veterans priority for Tuition Assistance, as long as all other Tuition Assistance requirements are met by the individual.

If your company is located in one of Colorado’s Enterprise Zones, your company may be eligible for a tax credit toward job training expenses for your employees. The Job Training Tax Credit may be applied toward what your company spends on IECRM apprentice training (including the Live-Online Program) and continuing education classes for your employees.

The IECRM apprentice program fulfills state licensing requirements for the states of Colorado and Wyoming. If you are an out-of-state resident hoping to apply to the Live-Online Apprentice Training Program, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Check to see if your state has a local IEC Chapter – click to view the full list of IEC Chapters. Your local chapter will be able to tell you if they offer an apprentice program near where you live, and they will also be able to tell you the apprentice training requirements for your state of residence – this is imperative because apprentice requirements vary from state to state.
  2. If your state does not have a local IEC Chapter, you must check with your state of residence to find out the apprentice training requirements within your state – this is imperative because apprentice training requirements vary from state to state.
  3. Contact IECRM with your state’s apprentice training requirements, and if our program meets your state’s requirements, we will begin the application process for the Live-Online Apprentice Training Program over the phone.

a. You do not need to come into our Denver office to fill out an application. We will take your information over the phone.
b. Please note, the OA/BAT program is not available to apprentice students outside of Colorado and Wyoming.
c. If you are a contractor interested in membership with IECRM, you may have an option to become a Member-at-Large with our chapter. Please contact Holly Andrews, IECRM Office Manager, for details, at (303) 853-4886.

IECRM is a US Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship (OA) certified training provider. This OA designation, formerly called BAT, allows our member companies with employees in our IECRM Apprenticeship School to bid government projects with Davis-Bacon wage requirements on a tiered scale. This tiered scale allows you to provide wage and benefit estimates far below that listed as Davis-Bacon prevailing wages. This unique benefit of IECRM enables your company to provide a more competitive bid than other bidders.

IECRM Self-Pay Tuition Policy

 

Self-pay students who are employed with a member company must register and pay through the member company using the IECRM Flashpoint Enrollment Portal/Process in order to qualify for member rates.

Self-pay students that are employed with a member company but that do not register and pay through the member will be charged the non-member rate for tuition, books and applicable fees.


Self-pay students who are employed with a member company and require a payment plan will not qualify for the member rate and will be charged the non-member rate for tuition, books and applicable fees.


Self-pay students who do not work for a member company will continue to be charged the non-member rate for tuition, books and applicable fees.


To maximize association/membership benefits, ALL member companies are encouraged to register and pay for all enrolled apprentices utilizing internal payment arrangements and processes between employer and employee.


We value our IECRM members and apprentice community. We encourage all apprentices to be enrolled in the four-year apprenticeship program, earning, and learning their way toward Journeyworker licensure. We encourage all members to utilize the member discount for tuition, books and applicable fees to ensure the long-term support and success of the next-generation electrician.

Self-Pay Payment Plan Policy


We offer the following arrangements for students that are unable to pay in full at the time of registration.


● Self-pay students will be charged the non-member rate.
● A 50% down payment of total semester tuition, books and applicable fees are due at registration.
● Remaining balance can be divided up to 3 additional monthly payments ($10.00 processing fee applies on each installment)
● All payments that are declined will incur a $20.00 NSF fee.

 

We encourage all students who are employed with a member company to work with their employer to register and pay through the IECRM Flashpoint Enrollment Portal/Process. This will ensure the student is paying the lowest possible rate for tuition, books and applicable fees.
