Cultivating Leadership Key to Industry Success

Each year, IECRM cultivates leaders-to-be from its member companies through its Emerging Leaders (EL) program. In its 10th year, the program is designed to tap into the desire to learn how to be enterprising, persistent, and bold. This year, 15 Emerging Leaders from IECRM member companies graduated from the award-winning leadership program.

“Cultivating talent is how our industry succeeds,” says Kori Hemans, Chief Financial Officer at IECRM. “Our organization supports our member companies by helping them identify employees who are passionately focused and interested in growth. Our job is to train these hand-selected individuals to understand what is important, and how to engage in the vision of their company and this industry in order to make the vision more meaningful and successful.”

Community service is one of the areas the IECRM program emphasizes over the course of the nine-month program. This year’s EL class launched a fundraising effort to give back to our community through a special campaign to support Freedom Service Dogs, a non-profit that trains dogs for adults and children with disabilities and needs as well as veterans with PTSD. The grand total of funds raised from this initiative was $10,000!

In addition to community service, the program provides experiential workshops and discussions about personal leadership, government relations, technology, and safety training.

“This training is uniquely designed to equip participants with the tools and tips to manage the challenges and responsibilities of leadership roles,” says Kori. “Through role-playing, self-assessment, and other professional development methods we help participants explore leadership roles as strategists, change agents, coaches, managers, communicators, mentors, and team members.”

IECRM is accepting nominations from members for the 2022-2023 program. Please contact Kori Hemans ([email protected]) for more information about how to become part of IECRM’s Emerging Leaders program or to nominate a candidate.

“The IEC national Emerging Leader program is designed to take nominated candidates on an even larger journey into other markets in order to bring what they have learned back with them. The national program focuses on “industry impact” projects and on the current issues we face; and ends their session with national recognition at the annual IEC national convention.

I have had the privilege to participate on both platforms. It was a tremendous experience for me both personally and professionally. Many of the members of my cohort i still converse and work closely with today. The programs were beneficial in polishing my professional skill set and leadership qualities. It also allowed me to become more self-analytical, helping me identify and shape the type of leader, teammate, and individual i want to be. I have been able to build long lasting relationships with participants and alumni of the program and now will be serving as a mentor for future candidates.

After completion of the local chapter program, the journey is just beginning. We still need your involvement. We need your energy and enthusiasm, and your voice needs to be heard. Look to join a committee or apply for the national program. Let your peers know how beneficial the program was for you. Keep the positive momentum going.

Now is the time to take the next step. If you are interested in participating or sponsoring one of your team members, please come talk with us this evening.” – Jason Jones

“The IECRM Emerging Leaders Program is a training and development program designed to develop the leadership skills of a hand-selected group of individuals who have been nominated from iec member companies. The program builds confidence, and communication, and even provides mentors for the participants: helping them shape the trajectory of their careers.

The ideal candidate is an individual who aspires to expand their leadership role within their company, and the industry at large. Someone who has the potential to be great and could benefit from some additional support and investment in their future.

LEI is a longtime supporter of the Emerging Leaders Program and this year supported five nominees to the leadership program. We have seen tremendous individual growth and added professional opportunity for the program participants we have supported in our company. The IECRM emerging leaders are the future of Colorado’s electrical industry. They mold the way we conduct business in our market for years to come.

Each year the Emerging Leaders collaborate on a community service project as part of the program. This year the emerging leaders raised $10,000 in support of freedom service dogs in celebration of the program’s tenth anniversary. Overall the program has served 150 representatives of the industry.” – Kyle Roman
