CONTRACTOR SPOTLIGHT: Black Bear Electric, Inc. Work Hard. Play Hard.
About…
Tom Hogan, president of Black Bear Electric, Inc., believes in the phrase, “Work Hard…Play Hard.” He’s played ice hockey since he was a kid and still plays it today as an adult. Perhaps that’s why his words of wisdom are such. It’s well known that ice hockey is one of the toughest sports in the world.
Tom and his team at Black Bear Electric, Inc. (BBE) apply the “Work Hard…Play Hard” motto in their work every day, and when he’s not spending time with his wife and two kids, he coaches ice hockey in his spare time. The hockey analogy is ingrained in BBE’s large residential and commercial projects.
Having obtained his master’s license in Massachusetts when he was just 22 years old, Tom worked as a foreman and service technician for several years. In 1996, he moved to Colorado, working for Riviera Electric, Encompass Electric, and Encore Electric. With more than 30 years of experience in the electrical field, his commitment to high standards, clean and efficient work sites, and friendly, reliable customer service is evident in the work and team he’s assembled at BBE.
Specializing in Electrical Service, GSA, Repairs & New Installations

How Has IECRM Been Instrumental in the Work of BBE?
“We are brand new to the IEC-Rocky Mountain Chapter.” Says Tom. “Education and continuing education are very important to us. The IECRM apprenticeship programs are invaluable and give our young apprentices the special edge over everyone else who enters the business to become a licensed journeyman’s electrician.”
Strongest Work Habits…
“We are always striving to provide a great customer experience with emphasis on quality and presentation,” he says. “We also treat all of our employees as family and don’t believe that anyone is just a number.”
Words of Inspiration and Wisdom…
“Like we say above, work hard, play hard,” says Tom. “Remember, the greater the risk, the greater the reward!”
