2022 IECRM Member Luncheon & Policy Forum Recap
On Wednesday, November 16th, IECRM hosted its Annual Member Luncheon and Policy Forum, which also served as the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Monthly Meeting. Paul Lingo, IECRM Training Director, and Chris Papp, Inspector for the City of Arvada, kicked off the meeting with National Electric Code (NEC) enforcement updates. Representatives from Duckt Strip joined via video to discuss their latest product, a new kind of mini-split cable that provides the installer with everything they need all in one cable. All IECRM contractors and partners are invited to join these monthly IECRM-hosted AHJ meetings which bring state and local inspectors and IECRM members together to discuss code challenges and interpretations from the field.
Following the AHJ meeting, Jay Hicks, IECRM lobbyists with Hicks & Associates, and David Scott, Encore Electric, gave post-election legislative updates, including updates on the tight races for various representative and senate districts around Colorado that support IEC and the trades as a whole, as well as upcoming challenges the industry will face with the split congress.
The meeting also included a panel discussion with four speakers, each representing a different perspective from around the industry, to talk about Energy Codes, Electrification, and the Impacts on the Industry. The subject matter experts discussed the changes they are currently seeing in their own fields, as well as the ones they are anticipating in the future, and how we as an industry can prepare and adapt. The strategic level discussion even had us considering if this new era of the industry could be as transformative in the future as Thomas Edison and the light bulb!
The four panelists included:
- Randy Sewald, Encore Electric
- Jason Sharpe, Namaste Solar
- Chris Papp, City of Arvada
- Allen Matsuo, Matsuo Engineering
